Bring a new book for children!!!!
Providing books to children is a simple, effective, and inexpensive way to promote language and literacy growth.
This year, SCP Backpacking for Success is launching “SCP Literacy for Success”. The program is designed to promote early literacy for young children, motivate older children to read, motivate parents to read to their children, and increase student achievement by distributing free books to children and their families, offering incentives to read, partnering with school libraries, local libraries, and offering high-quality literacy activities.

Serendipity, Collage & Potpourri (SCP) Backpacking for Success Program was founded in 2004 and is a non- profit, tax exempt 501(c)(3), operating exclusively for charitable and educational purposes to have a positive impact on the communities in which we live. SCP Backpacking for Success, provides free backpacks and school supplies to Metropolitan Detroit students in need to help ensure that “No child is without the basics to succeed.”

Get your after work groove on and help encourage early childhood literacy!!!!

Yes, you heard that right! The SCP/UR Backpack Music Festival is the new name for that incredible event that happens on Belle Isle every year only…

This year is going to be different with not only a new name, but a new location! Remember the Tastefest, the Cityfest, the great fest that would happen in the heart of Detroit’s New Center? Well now the event will be taking place at New Center Park, in the heart of that central neighborhood. As usual, expect good music, good food, and good times for a good cause!

Details are being organized as we speak, but expect not one, but two musical stages, one featuring several people who can only be called “Innovators” and another being hosted by SCPMichigan.org and Underground Resistance! It’s all about the kids, so there will be special activities just for them too. You owe it to yourself to check this out!

August 4-5, 2012

New Center Park, Detroit, MI

Keep checking here and at www.backpackmusicfest.com for more information
