The 7th Annual SCP/UR Backpack Music Festival will be held @ New Center Park in Detroit’s Midtown onSaturday, August 4 and Sunday, August 5, 2012 Event times for BOTH days are: Noon (12pm) to Midnight (12am) ALL AGES WELCOME!

The price of admission with the donation of a Backpack and school supplies is $10.

Without these items the cost of admission is $20.

For Children 6-12 years old, the price of admission is $5.

Children 6 and under are Free!

This year will be BIGGER than ever! Infusing the community with electronic music, visual arts, civic duty, and Detroit pride! SCP/UR-Backpacking For Success will collaborating with the founders and innovators of electronic music:

This year is going to be different with not only a new name, but a new location!  Remember the Tastefest, the Cityfest, the great fest that would happen in the heart of Detroit’s New Center?  Well now the event will be taking place at New Center Park, in the heart of that central neighborhood.  As usual, expect good music, good food, and good times for a good cause!

Details are being organized as we speak, but expect not one, but two musical stages, one featuring several people who can only be called “Innovators” and another being hosted by SCPMichigan.org and  Underground Resistance!  It’s all about the kids, so there will be special activities just for them too.  You owe it to yourself to check this out!

The Detroit public school system has been ordered to close half its schools to make up for a $327 million deficit. The school closings will cause class sizes to bulge to 60.

Detroit public school graduation rate is 32%

Detroit has the highest poverty rate among 20 largest American cities and the Detroit median household income of $28,069 is the lowest among those cities.

82% High percentage of students eligible for free and reduced lunch

We regret that everyone who wanted to participate couldn’t be included but we will be doing several Backpack & Picnic fundrasiers and DJ talent is always needed for that.

This free event for the entire family also feature games and activities for the kids (and adults). Attendees are encouraged to bring their own Grills, Food, and Beverages but some of the official sponsors of the Picnic will be providing goodies.

Attendees are asked to bring a Backpack filled with School Supplies that will be donated to need Detroit Area School Kids in the Fall.

For 2010, the 2nd Annual  SCP Rhythm. Blues, & Soul Concert, features Big Will  & The 360 Degree Band.

Big Will is best known as the Lead singer of the Sun Messengers, Official Band of the Detroit Piston), he is joined by a group of 6 talented musicians called The 360 Degree Band and they play ALL types of music: ranging from current hits and classics from years past, providing a high energy show, taking the audience on a enjoyable, energy filled 360 Degree Musical Tour!
