Internships

Take advantage of our internship opportunities!

In return for hours interned, we can provide the intern with college credits, community service hours, and letters of recommendation! This is also a great opportunity to network with others who share an interest in civic duty, as well as event production and promotions.

We want to assure you, this isn’t a dull, summer internship. This is a FUN organization to work for! Our overall mission is to provide young, under privileged  students with the basics to succeed. Our main source of donations are through hosting live entertainment events. Most of these events feature House and Techno DJ’s , which is a huge music industry in the Detroit area.

We host and produce these events throughout the year with the objective of gathering as many backpacks and school supply donations as possible. That’s why we primarily make the price of admission to our concerts the donation of a backpack with school supplies! Our goal for 2012 is to provide 3,500 – 5,000 backpacks to students in need this coming school year to our adopted Detroit elementary schools, Women’s and Children’s shelters, and Camp Michigan Transplant Kids.

We can meet this goal through a combination of individual donations, private and corporate sponsorships, and most importantly, the help from volunteers, interns, and council members who can clearly and collaboratively understand the importance of the cause we are fighting for.

Our next big backpack drive that we need serious man power for will be our 7th Annual Backpack Music Festival. This festival is a 2 day event, taking place August 4th and 5th, and it will be a 2 stage, outdoor event located at New Center Park and an adjoining parking lot in Detroit’s New Center

district. This is a newer park that opened in 2010 and it is located directly across the street from the Fisher Theater. We are putting the call out to the community, churches and universities in hopes of reaching our goal of 150 volunteers and interns to man the crew for this event, which is expected to reach an attendance rate of 1,500.- 2,000 people. This will be a corporately sponsored event, teaming up with Red Bull and other popular brands.

If you’re looking for an internship that you have to wear a suit, or sit in a cubicle all day, this is NOT the internship for you! We love working with energetic, creative, and goal-oriented people, especially in high-volume settings such as our our backpack drives.

So what internship opportunities do we offer? Well, we want students who are applying to tell us THEIR strengths!

Are you a computer whiz, a chatty cathy, a graphic design “Picasso”? We have a role for you!

Focused training will be offered in the main concentrations in Project Management, Event Planning and Production, Non-Profit Organization,  Graphic Design (We need a new logos, banners, and fliers designed all the time!) and any other related fields as approved by the participated Intern’s Career Services department.

If this internship sounds like something that would be both beneficial and enriching as a student please contact our Intern Department further so we can send you the appropriate volunteer or internship applications. On that application will be submission directions and addresses. Please be aware that is this a non-profit organization and we do not have any paying internships or positions available.

We may request an interview with the potential interns, a portfolio if the students concentration is in Graphic Design, and have a scheduled internship meeting before the event so everyone can meet the council and each other. We look forward to getting to know some new faces!
